How to Stay Healthy While Travelling

Travelling offers an incredible way to experience more of the world. It gives you the opportunity to experience new cultures which can broaden your horizons and bring a new perspective to your life. Numerous studies have even shown that travel can do wonders for your overall wellness. But in the excitement of exploring a new place it’s easy to overlook your health.

Here we’ll look at how you can stay healthy while travelling and still get to indulge during your trip.

Have an Exercise Routine

Even a small amount of exercise can go a long way towards staying healthy. To motivate yourself to exercise, consider booking a hotel that offers complimentary access to a gym for guests. If that’s not an option, there may be a local gym where you can buy a daily or weekly pass. You can even do high intensity workouts right in your room like push-ups, jump squats, and burpees.

Take about 10 to 15 minutes to exercise first thing in the morning. If you plan to work out later in the day, you either won’t have the time or you may simply be too tired.

Get Plenty of Sleep

You’re in a new area and you’re eager to spend as much time exploring it. However, it’s still important that you get plenty of rest. Quality sleep is just as important to your health exercise. In fact, a lack of sleep can lead to a number of health conditions such as heart disease and diabetes.

Most healthy adults need between 7 to 9 hours of sleep. Consider bringing a comfortable travel pillow and ear plugs with you to get better sleep during your travels. You’ll also find the comfortable rooms at Leeton Heritage Motor Inn perfect for getting a restful night as you explore the region.

Limit Alcohol Consumption

It’s tempting to let loose during vacation but one thing to remember is that alcohol primarily consists of empty calories. An average pint of beer has a little over 200 calories while a glass of wine has about the same number of calories. Having one drink won’t make you gain weight immediately. But having one everyday can really start to add up.

If you take a week long trip, having a drink every day would add up to about 1,400 calories. You would need to spend hours of jogging just to burn it all off. Opt for healthier alternatives instead such as water or tea. If you must partake, then make sure to balance out those days with an equal number of non-drinking days or put in more time at the local gym.

Eat Healthier Alternatives

It’s easy for healthy lifestyles to fall by the wayside on vacation. It’s only natural that you would want to try out as much of the local cuisine as you can. You never know when or if you will ever return. But even when you travel, it’s still important to have a balanced diet.

Be sure to include plenty of fruits and vegetables into your diet. We talked about limiting alcohol consumption but this also applies for sweet drinks and desserts as well.
